I’ve created .vdi image of Windows 7 Ultimate, hosted on Windows 7 Ultimate. I needed a lost of extra space in .vdi image because I am migrating some database to mysql Interesting volume of thing. When I exit the VM, go to the settings of the VM and detach the virtual hard drive, and boot it again, the guest OS boots perfectly normal. I found my own, super stupid solution: Resize the disk by executing VBoxManage modifyhd Windows7.vdi –resize 50000 Remount the disk in VirtualBox Mount GParted ISO to resize the virtual disk At this point VirtualBox
Re: [Help] Cannot boot after resizing VHD by mpack » 22. Feb 2011, 11:01 Did the VHD work in VirtualBox before you resized it? Or did you resize it before you tested it for the first time? If you need to increase Disk size in VirtualBox, you can use GUI or CLI. Follow the instructions mentioned in this post to the size of the partition.

I resized vdi settings first, which is success (I can see it through gparted interface) ,I resized the disk, so far so good, but when I click the apply change the capacity I am not clear on how to increase the size of an already up and running Windows virtual machine running in OS. Then, I removed saved states, which are probably the reason why the virtual machine couldn’t see the resized disk. Just to be sure, I updated the virtual space once more
After upgrading to 4.x, virtualbox has been added a new feature which can resize the vhd file, i.e. Vboxmanage.exe modifyhd –resize. I used it to resize my vhd file from 40G to 60G.
